Student Services

Language Systems International, together with United States Student Services (USSS), a local company, offers students a variety of services based on their needs. These support services include:

Opening a Bank Account

When you first arrive in the U.S., you may open a U.S. bank account.

Most Americans use personal checks, credit cards and debit cards to pay for purchases. Many students who come from overseas have a cash card which allows them to withdraw cash in the U.S. However, you cannot make any payments with this card. For example, when you pay your rent or cell phone bill, you will probably have to pay by check.

Checking Account
Checking Accounts allow you to make payments by personal check or debit card.

Savings Account
Savings accounts earn interest on the money in the account.

Online Banking
Most banks have websites were you can make online payments and check your account balances.

If you have your own PC and good access to the Internet, you may use Skype, which allows you to call all over the world for about 3 cents per minute.

Phone company plans
AT&T and Verizon have international calling plans to call other countries. The plans vary, and there are features that can be added, such as unlimited minutes for $50 or a set price per minute with a small monthly fee.

Airport Transfer Service

A designated LSI staff member will meet students at the airport upon their arrival and take them to either their homestay or dormitory location. Our LSI staff will also provide students with a brief orientation session upon their arrival for students to become familiar with basic contacts and emergency information. The staff will also explain how to get to school on the first day of class. If students need particular assistance in anything, our staff will be happy to help.

Airline Tickets

If students would like to travel overseas for a short period of time, like during their vacation, LSI can help students find cheap tickets and buy them through the school.

We will help with both international and domestic flights.

Shuttle Services

If students need to get to the airport and are traveling as a group, they can also book an airport shuttle service at LSI. This is a good way of saving on travel expenses.

Health Insurance

LSI does not provide international students with health coverage, but recommends to students Academic Health Plans, a company that provides student insurance (

The types of services students can get will vary by the level of the health insurance coverage. For example, some insurance plans have dental and vision coverage included in the package.

There are two ways to pay a medical bill. First, pay the bills up front and receive reimbursement from your insurance company. Second, have the health provider (i.e. doctor or clinic) charge your insurance company directly.

Make sure that you are familiar with your insurance policy. Ask your insurance agent for more details.

The TOEFL iBT® class has been a big help to me! It has helped me improve my English writing, reading, and speaking. It has also helped me understand language in general and it has been very practical and easy to study in this course. Professor David is a big help in this class. He makes it easy to learn and understand language. He also gives good examples and explanations of the topics. The professor answers all my questions about grammar and even explains it with examples from daily life. This class has definitely helped me a lot in my journey to learn English. It also helps me with my goal to write at a college level. This will help me on my way to university.
