Language Systems, together with Sweet Home California (SHCA), a local company, offers students a variety of services based on their needs. These support services include:
Opening a Bank Account
When you first arrive in the U.S., you may open a U.S. bank account.
Most Americans use personal checks, credit cards and debit cards to pay for purchases. Many students who come from overseas have a cash card which allows them to withdraw cash in the U.S. However, you cannot make any payments with this card. For example, when you pay your rent or cell phone bill, you will probably have to pay by check.
Checking Accounts allow you to make payments by personal check or debit card.
Savings accounts earn interest on the money in the account.
Most banks have websites were you can make online payments and check your account balances.
Airport Transport Service
A designated SHCA staff member will meet students at the airport upon their arrival and take them to either their homestay or dormitory location. SHCA staff will also provide students with a brief orientation session upon their arrival for students to become familiar with basic contacts and emergency information. The staff will also explain how to get to school on the first day of class. If students need particular assistance in anything, our staff will be happy to help.
If students would like to travel overseas for a short period of time, like during their vacation, Language Sysytems can help students find cheap tickets and buy them through the school.
We will help with both international and domestic flights.
If students need to get to the airport and are traveling as a group, they can also book an airport shuttle service at Language Systems. This is a good way of saving on travel expenses.
Language Systems does not provide international students with health coverage, but recommends to students Academic Health Plans, a company that provides student insurance (www.academichealthplans.com).
The types of services students can get will vary by the level of the health insurance coverage. For example, some insurance plans have dental and vision coverage included in the package.
There are two ways to pay a medical bill. First, pay the bills up front and receive reimbursement from your insurance company. Second, have the health provider (i.e. doctor or clinic) charge your insurance company directly.
Make sure that you are familiar with your insurance policy. Ask your insurance agent for more details.

My English has improved a lot in the TOEFL iBT® class. I have learned many tips and have practiced writing. Professor David gives us good examples and has taught us how to organize the structure of English writing. He also analyzes sentence structure in detail and explains vocabulary in an easy way. We practice speaking by discussing the reading’s topic from the book or from recent news in America. The TOEFL teacher has inspired me to think more about my life and the environment.
